Martin's story began in Iowa and Missouri, surrounded by lush alfalfa fields, weathered barns, and the scent of leather from his grandfather’s saddle shop. Summers spent on horseback with his family’s Black Angus herd forged Martin’s deep appreciation for hard work, heritage, and the durability of fine leather. These early experiences imparted a love for materials that age gracefully—a quality he brings to every piece he designs.

The journey to founding his own company in 1990 started in St. Louis, at the family department store Stix, Baer and Fuller, where he was first immersed in men’s haberdashery. Later, he launched Rainbow Neckwear with his wife, Gay, before realizing his passion lay in leather goods, not corporate life. The first collection of Martin Dingman leather goods began with men’s braces and belts, expanding over time to include wallets, briefcases, and ultimately, footwear.

Today, Martin continues to source the finest leathers and exotics worldwide. Each collection combines his decades of experience with the quiet elegance and authenticity of the American countryside.
