Setter History
The Martin Dingman Royal Llewellin Setter has a long and rich history dating back to England, during the mid 1800’s. This rare breed was developed through well documented and selective breeding practices, beginning with champion, show quality Field Setters, and outcrossed to the now extinct South Esk. Martin Dingman Royal Llewellins have been traced back to the original bloodlines from England, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as the architects of the breed, Mr. Edward Laverack, Lord Richard Purcell Llewellin, and Lord William Humphrey.
A Family Member
This unique breed is exceptional in the field, and even better as a family companion (a rare combination for sporting dogs). Martin is an an advocate of the outdoor sporting life dating back to his childhood days, alongside his grandfather who raised and hunted Walker foxhounds. Martin's goal as a breeder is not to produce the most, but the finest Llewellins, and to protect and continue the tradition of these beautiful and very special dogs.
Martin Dingman’s Royal Llewellin Family
Currently, Martin and his family enjoy the companionship of Henry (8), Saxon (3), and the latest addition, Ivy (14 wks). Martin has a limited number of Llewellin puppies available each year, from the same bloodlines as Henry and Saxon, reserved for families who truly have a love and appreciation of the breed.

The MD Royal bloodline traces directly back to the architects of the breed — Mr. Edward Laverack (the father of the modern Setter), Sir Richard Purcell Llewellin, and Mr. William Humphrey. Our small breeding program is devoted to protecting, maintaining, and strengthening this treasured breed.
Because of this commitment, we do not operate as a commercial kennel, nor do we produce large quantities of puppies. Our goal is simple: to breed only the finest Royal Llewellin puppies in the world, placing them with families who will appreciate and uphold this legacy.
At this time, due to overwhelming demand and an extensive waiting list (24+ Months in advance) we have temporarily closed the MD Royal Puppy Adoption Application process.
